facts about the titanic

now we are all pretty familiar with the story of the  of the titanic well here are some facts that non of you probably knew

1 the titanic was the largest ship and moving object

2 it weighed close to 50,000 tons . it was 11 stories tall ,and 4 city blocks long !!!!

3 there were 2,224 passengers and 215 members of the crew .

4 survivors included 498 passengers and 215 members of the crew .

5 the passengers came from over 28 different countries including many from America,England,Ireland,and Finland.


6 there were a few passengers from china, japan, mexico and south africa.

7.  most of the crew members were from england and ireland.

8.  there were 9 dogs on the titanic.  they stayed in kennels, but their woners could take them out onto the decks for walks.

9.  two pomeranians and one pekingese survived with their masters.

10.  after the sinkin of the titanic. laws were changed to require all ships to carry enough lifeboats for every passenger and crew member.

11.  for decades, divers, scientists and treasure hunters searched for the wreck of the titanic. it was finally located in 1985 by a team led by the us scientist robert ballard 2 1/2 miles below the surface of the sea. 

12.  ballard and his team did not take anything from the wreck.  dr. ballard believes the titanic should rest in peace as a memorial to those who dies.  but he couldn't stop treasure hunters from diving to the wreck and removing thousands of artifacts:  jewlery, dishes, clothes, even the ships hull.
